Anime Girls With Eye Patches
Most characters in anime are created to have several layers to their personality, and female characters are no different. Anime girls are known to have different traits or accessories that speak about their personalities. Over the years, the anime industry has made many female characters to be cute and loveable.
This can be achieved through different means, from dressing to the manner of speaking. More often than not, cute accessories like glasses and cat ears are used to add depth to a female character’s personality.
Over time, many of these accessories became common, and the industry needed new ways to make anime girls likable to viewers. Here’s where the eye patch enters.
You have definitely seen anime girls with eye patches, and I would say they are a beauty. While the eye patch makes them look cute and likable, it can also convey another side of the character, like past injury or trauma. And of course, it’s no surprise if an anime girl with an eye patch is badass.
Adding glasses to a female character makes her look smart and timid, whereas eye patches make anime girls look mature with a strong will. However, some anime have succeeded in making anime girls with eye patches look weak and protectable.
In essence, depending on the personality of the character, an eye patch can add more depth and make the patient more relatable. Now, enough of the babbling. Let’s look at the top 10 anime girls with an eye patch.
1. Mei Misaki (Another)
Mei is a typical example of how an eye patch can be used to define a character’s personality. The anime portrayed her as a creepy student who had been bullied and ostracized by her classmates. She is an enigmatic, lonely, antisocial, and withdrawn character who does not see the value in human bonding.
The mystery behind Mei and her eye patch begins to be unraveled only after a new transfer student takes an interest in her. Mei’s personality has been attributed to being a result of past trauma. Even though she is seen as creepy, she sometimes appears cute and childish.
The anime “Another” will keep you glued to your seats as you journey through Mei’s past and mysteries. To top it all off, there are some graphic and detailed death scenes surrounding her. Mei is indeed a well-suited anime girl for an eye patch.
2. Najenda (Akame Ga Kill)
For Najenda, an eye patch conveys how badass she is. As the head of the Night Raid, she is a strong-willed and formidable character. She was once a general in the corrupt empire and decided to defect when she found out. However, this made her a prime target of the government and its highest ranking general, Esdeath.
During her fight with Esdeath, she sustained major injuries to her right arm and right eye, which necessitated her always wearing a robotic arm and eye patch. However, unlike many other anime girls with eye patches, Najenda isn’t created to look cute but rather strong and capable. She is sort of androgynous and is often mistaken for being a man.
3. Mio Sakamoto (Strike Witches)
As one of the main characters in the anime, she is far more disciplined and tougher than other strike witches. She is the second in command and is responsible for recruiting capable newbies into the organization.
Mio is a cheerful and broadminded character that seems to be the heart and soul of her team. Using her magic eye, she is able to see far into domains where human eyes can’t see. In battle, this enables her to spot Neuroi cores from a long distance.
However, it is difficult for her to control the magic eye and keep it active permanently. Therefore, when not in use, she covers the magic eye with a white eye patch.
4. Shimei Ryomou (Ikkitousen)
Shimei ranks at least second-strongest (only behind Saji) and is one of Nanyo’s biggest four. She is quite beautiful, with short dark blue hair. Before being a tactical commander, she excelled in fighting skills and was the only one able to defeat Unchou Kan-u.
She is known to be a sadist because who in their right mind would enjoy ripping off their teammate’s arm until it breaks?
Even though she seems to love causing pain to others, she was revealed to have had a softer side. Some mysterious incidents in the past totally changed her personality.
5. Adiane (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann)
Adiane is the definition of a hot-headed woman. She is the only female general among the four supreme generals of the Spiral King. She is known to be cruel, impulsive, and always letting her emotions get to her, as she is usually seen venting her frustration on Viral.
At first glance, Adiane looks like a human with blue hair and a curvy body. However, her scorpion tail and snake-like eyes give her away as a beastman. She wears an eye patch over her left eye, and the reason remains unknown.
6. Jiyu Nanohana (Jubee-chan: Lovely Gantai no Himitsu)
Jiyu, also called Jubei by her friends, got dragged into a whole different world when she met Kinosuke Adago. As an attendant to a once great swordsman, Kinosuke made Jiyu his successor. This has meant nothing but trouble for the 14-year-old girl, as she has to fight off people who show up to claim her title.
She is quite a dense character, although mature and level-headed. She does not see signs of danger or even romance until it’s right in her face. Even at that, she can still miss it.
The lovely eye patch worn by Jiyu is the source of her powers. It is the symbol that she is the successor of the famous swordsman, Yagyu Jubei. Once she puts on the eye patch, she undergoes a transformation into an older woman wearing what looks like a ninja outfit.
7. Chihiro Shindou ( Ef – A Tale Of Memories)
Bound to only have 12 years’ worth of memory, Chihiro has been afflicted by anterograde amnesia after an accident. This means she remembers every event that happened before the crash but can only keep new memories for 13 hours before it vanishes. She continually writes in her diary to keep up with the events of the day.
This is due to the brain damage sustained during the accident that damaged her hippocampus. Alongside the amnesia, she also lost her left eye, which made her start to wear an eye patch.
Chihiro is a wide-eyed girl with purple hair. Before the accidents, she was active and outgoing like her sister. However, after surviving, she became more reserved and quiet.
At first glance, she looks like a normal girl with an eye patch, but there is much more to her character than meets the eye.
8. Sofia Velmer (Jormungand)
Commonly called Valmet, she is the only female member of Koko’s squad and a former officer in the Finnish Rapid Deployment Force. Revenge was one of her major driving motives in the military before she met Koko.
Being in the military, she is calm and collected, fierce and tough. However, she can easily lose her cool when Koko is in danger or threatened. Valmet lost her eye in a battle in Africa, alongside her men. She now wears an eye patch over her right eye, which serves as a memento of what she has passed through.
9. Laura Bodewig (Infinite Stratos)
As one of the main heroines in Infinite Stratos, Laura is cold and has an antisocial personality. This is rightfully attributed to the fact that she grew up in a military complex. She is described as a super soldier, has a superiority complex, and refers to those around her as having second-rate abilities.
She wears a black eye patch over her left eye. This is due to a failed experiment carried out to make her a better IS pilot.
10. Aldra (Queen’s Blade: Gyokuza wo Tsugu Mono)
Apart from the cat-like headband, Aldra wears a metal eye patch over her right eye. She is seen as an uncaring and cold person who only worries about her future goals. However, this is later revealed to be the personality of the demon she made a pact with and not hers.
